Whether you’re home with a sick kid, or on lock down due to a pandemic, you have to miss church on occasion. My family is in the latter situation right now. I am sooooo grateful that I can stream our church’s service online. That’s great for me and my husband and older kids, but my younger ones miss out on their Sunday school class. Are you on a quest to find things for your kids to do while you’re all on lock down? Our family is currently on week 3 of the shelter in place order with about 4 more to go (sigh). Though we already homeschool, I’m finding it’s helpful to “mix things up” a little and give the kids tasks to challenge them. LEGOs are my go-to to get my kids to think creatively. With families homebound (at the time I wrote this post) due to the shelter in place order, it hopefully means families are also eating together more. When all 10 of our family members are gathered at the table, we like to play games. Earlier this month, I wrote a post about games you can play with your kids around the dinner table. In the busyness of life, it’s easy for me to forget about teaching my kids life skills. After all, teaching a skill takes time and patience, both of which are often in short supply. Now that we are homebound due to the “shelter in place” mandate, we have a little more time to work on these skills. If you’re like me, you might want to try these 10 life skills to teach your kids when you’re stuck inside.
Living where we do in California, we don’t experience snow days or any other days that force us to stay at home. With the “shelter in place” directive our governor has put into place in the wake of COVID-19 however, we are now forced to hunker down. Though we are allowed to be outside for walks, I know the kids are going to be itching to go other places before too long. With that in mind, I have compiled a list of must-see virtual field trips for kids of all ages to explore.
Right now we are seeing an unprecedented number of school closures due to the Corona virus. Parents are having to come up with ideas to keep kids occupied during this time. Even homeschooling families find themselves homebound as activities are cancelled as a precaution. If you are like me, you do not want to see your kids glued to screens to pass their time. To help prevent boredom and keep the kids off screens, I have 10 screen-free indoor activities for kids of all ages.

As busy homeschool moms, we have plenty of “to do” lists. I’m not even talking about life stuff. Homeschooling alone has quite the laundry list of essentials that must get done. In future blog posts, I’ll share tips on how to get those tasks done (lesson planning, buying curriculum, scheduling your year, etc.) Not that I’m an expert, but I have had a lot of trial and error. I went to public school from kindergarten through graduate school and was never taught about the Japanese Internment camps. I knew about their existence because of my dad’s experience in a camp. Educating our kids about this aspect of history is important and something I have not done as well as I should. To that end, I have compiled a book list and resources to help in this endeavor. I also created three sets of free printables to share with you.
