LEGO Challenges for July

How are your kids doing keeping busy this summer? Here in California, theme parks are still closed as are playgrounds in regular neighborhood parks. Thankfully we have a pool, so the kids spend a good amount of time there. To keep their minds going, I have been giving them a LEGO challenge a day. I figured since we aren’t yet in the double digits of the month, it’s not too late to deliver these LEGO challenges for July.

How I come up with the challenges

I covered this in my post for the June LEGO challenges, but as way of a reminder, I use holidays as my inspiration. I Google holidays for the month and take it from there. As you’ll see, there are some pretty crazy ones in July. There is seriously a “take your houseplant for a walk day.”

Need some inspiration?

Your kids might be like one of my sons who does not want to see anyone else’s creations before he makes his. However, if you have a child who could use a little help, here are some sites to come to the rescue.

Sharks

For Shark Awareness Day, your child can go to one of these sites:

Little Bins for Little Hands tries to use basic bricks when making their creations. They have some creative flat sharks your kids can try.

Frugal fun for boys and girls has a fun 3D version of a shark, complete with moveable fins and jaw.

Kittens

For Kitten Day, Instructables has a mini cat your kids can try to replicate.

Frugal fun for boys and girls gives instructions on how to make movable cats you can pose.

Suns

I suppose it’s rather ironic to build a sun for “Stay out of the sun day.” Oh well.

If your kids want to try their hands at a 3D model, they can see a picture of one at LEGO ideas

This is a very cool You Tube video on how to make a LEGO ball. This can help you with the sun, moon, and other builds.

Watermelons

Here’s a video by Brick Builder Creations on how to make a 117 piece LEGO watermelon slice. It’s quite impressive.

You can see how to make two simpler versions of watermelon slices here.

One of these days I’ll set up an Instagram account so I can see your kids’ creations! As you can see from my lack of social media buttons, I’m not on any of those platforms. I am on Pinterest, so you can always find me there under “Hislifelearner.”
