Do you need a reason to celebrate during these crazy pandemic times? How about celebrating Kodomo no hi, or Children’s Day? It’s a national holiday celebrated in Japan on May 5 to celebrate the happiness and health of children. I’ll give you 5 easy ways to celebrate Children’s Day on May 5 or any other day.
I do a fair amount of confessing on this blog. (Read my post “I’m not that mom” and you’ll see what I mean.) What I’m confessing this time is that I never intended to write this. If you receive my emails, you read a list of content I am planning on writing. So what happened? A friend of mine was reading my post on YouTube workout videos for moms, and emailed asking if I had any recommendations for YouTube workout channels for kids. So there you go. Faithful reader request trumps other content.
Oops. I missed the monthly mom quote for March. Once the pandemic hit, I dedicated my time to writing about how to survive the shelter in place mandate. At this point, I think we could all use a little humor. I made this funny guilty mom quote free printable and decided I needed to bring it to you, with a story.
With families homebound (at the time I wrote this post) due to the shelter in place order, it hopefully means families are also eating together more. When all 10 of our family members are gathered at the table, we like to play games. Earlier this month, I wrote a post about games you can play with your kids around the dinner table. Some of the games I listed required pencil and paper. The games on the list here don’t require any materials. They truly are simple games to play around the table.
In the busyness of life, it’s easy for me to forget about teaching my kids life skills. After all, teaching a skill takes time and patience, both of which are often in short supply. Now that we are homebound due to the “shelter in place” mandate, we have a little more time to work on these skills. If you’re like me, you might want to try these 10 life skills to teach your kids when you’re stuck inside.
Right now we are seeing an unprecedented number of school closures due to the Corona virus. Parents are having to come up with ideas to keep kids occupied during this time. Even homeschooling families find themselves homebound as activities are cancelled as a precaution. If you are like me, you do not want to see your kids glued to screens to pass their time. To help prevent boredom and keep the kids off screens, I have 10 screen-free indoor activities for kids of all ages.
Until fairly recently, our family of 10 spent every meal together. Now that the older three are working and the rest of us have various activities, time together is more scarce. To maximize our time together, I wanted to find games we could play as we’re sitting around the table. To that end, I’ve compiled a list of dinner table games for kids of all ages.
Did you, like me, resolve to get more fit in 2020? For me, it means getting back on the intermittent fasting bandwagon. For you, it may be to exercise more. If that’s true, I may have something that can help make exercise a part of your daily routine. Here you will find a list of the top 10 YouTube workout channels for moms.
I once read an article in which the writer was describing his mother. He commented that she never raised her voice at her kids. I instantly thought, “Wow, I’m not that mom.” I used to be a preschool teacher and then an elementary school teacher. I have a loud voice and its decibel level is tied to the number of bad decisions my kids make each day, or each hour. I have a boat load of kids. You get the picture.
I have to admit that I do not currently have a problem getting my kids to eat their vegetables. In fact I once heard a few of them arguing over who was going to be able to eat the last of the roasted broccoli. That is music to a mom’s ears. For one of my kids, however, this wasn’t always the case. Spending the first two years in a Chinese orphanage, we guessed that she didn’t eat too much in the way of produce. She was suspicious of anything green that appeared on her plate. She would make sure she pushed it out with her tongue if it made it into her mouth. For her, we had to be stealthy and get creative. In my opinion, these are the five best veggies to sneak into your kids’ food:
