I’m cutting it close with this month’s free printable mom quote. Our family has three birthdays between Christmas and January 20, so we’ve doing a lot of celebrating. I’ve also been doing a lot of wrapping, I mean, a lot of wrapping. I shop and buy Christmas gifts for my kids on behalf of my parents, so I wrap all those gifts as well. Eight kids, lots of gifts, you get the picture.
What’s a minute?
Do you ever regret teaching your kids how to tell time? It’s like being sorry when your kids can read because then your can’t spell things you don’t want them to know. Once they can tell time and you say to them, “Just a minute,” they can stalk you for 60 seconds. After that time is up, they’ll yell, “It’s been a minute!” Don’t even bother to say “Just a second.”
I have to say I agree with this month’s mom quote. There are times I am hoping my kids will forget when they’ve asked me something. Not likely. They have steel trap minds when it comes to what they want. They’ll forget where they put their shoes, or that I told them not to provoke each other, but whether or not they can lick the yogurt spoon is a question indelibly etched in their minds.
Teaching time
If you would actually like for your kids to know how to tell time, there are a few fun books that address the topic. I do have to disclose I am an Amazon affiliate and may get a small fee if you purchase a product through my link.
“It’s About Time” is an introduction to the concept of time for younger ones. The book is in the “Math Start” series which teaches mathematical concepts through stories.
“Just a Minute” is a book I’ve read to my kids a number of times. In it, a little boys learns about time as he’s repeatedly told “Just a Minute.” This book is $20 new! Yikes! There is a used copy priced at $5.65.
A great tool to use for teaching time is this Melissa and Doug wooden clock. It comes with reversible cards that kids can use to match the time on the clock. Can’t go wrong with Melissa and Doug products.
