Are you already in Christmas mode? For some, once November hits, it’s time for Christmas music and movies. I however, actually look forward to Thanksgiving. Seriously, what’s not to like about indulging in lots of yummy food? As we get into Thanksgiving week, I like to give my kids some themed worksheets to add some fun to their schoolwork. I went to public school from kindergarten through graduate school and was never taught about the Japanese Internment camps. I knew about their existence because of my dad’s experience in a camp. Educating our kids about this aspect of history is important and something I have not done as well as I should. To that end, I have compiled a book list and resources to help in this endeavor. I also created three sets of free printables to share with you.
When my kids were learning their letters, I loved using themed printables. It was especially nice when they were free! I made this Valentine’s Day Alphabet Matching free printable with frugal moms in mind.
With a new year, comes the need for a new calendar. I am very particular about what I want in a calendar. I want it to be free, lined, editable, and have two pages per month. We’re a big family, so we have a lot of activities to fill in! I searched online, and when I couldn’t find what I wanted, I created my own. Many moons ago I ran a Lego club for our homeschool group. We would gather at my church once a month. Each family would bring its own set of Legos and a blanket (to help prevent Legos from co-mingling with those of other families). I would give the kids a specific Lego challenge, or what I called a “theme.” The kids had a certain amount of time to create either on their own, or in teams according to the challenge. After I called time, the kids would gather in a group and share their creations with each other.

My two youngest love to sort and match. They love to sort cards, socks (though they never wear a matching pair), crayons, you name it. Though they know their seasons, I thought it would still be fun to create this free seasons printable game to work on sorting and matching skills. To make it more versatile, I made one set (with all four seasons game boards and picture tiles) half-sized , and another set (with all four seasons) full sized, both shown below.
